RIVER CITY CONNECTION TOUR - WESTON

Called "The town time passed by," Weston was a thriving river port and wagon outfitting post from its founding in 1837 until the flood that carried the Missouri River a mile away in the late 1800's. The population dropped from a high 5,000 to just under 1,000.

Agriculture became the foundation for the town's fortunes. Weston is the home to the only tobacco market west of the Mississippi, and to McCormick Distilling Company, one of America's oldest distilleries.

A rebirth of the town started in the early 1960's with the establishment of the Weston Historical Museum, and of commerce in the 1980's. Weston has added more than 50 new businesses in the preserved 1840's downtown area. Add to this two wineries, four bed and breakfast inns, a 1,000-plus acre state park with basic and improved campsites, and a ski area, not to mention an orchard and educational farm and you have a great area to visit for an afternoon, day or a week.
