THE MISSION OF THE YAC IS TO:
 
Operate a safe, readily identifiable and easily accessible facility for the youth of Leavenworth, Fort Leavenworth and Leavenworth County to gather under appropriate adult supervision for age-appropriate activities.
 
Provide activities that will focus on improving the social, cultural and educational skill of youth.
 
Strengthen the family unit by improving communications between youth and adults.
 
Eliminate discrimination.
 
Provide opportunities for adult mentoring and counseling which will address the issues of low self-esteem among youth.
 
HOW DID WE DO IN 2004?
 
More than 1500 Youth participated in activities at the YAC.
 
Shawn Bryant, a YAC Youth Volunteer, received the Prudential Spirit of Community Bronze Award.
 
More than 200 Youth participated in Free After-School Programs.
 
Fifteen Teens received Job Skill Training.
 
Ninety Youth went to Summer Camp at the YAC at no cost to the family.
 
CURRENT PROGRAMS & SERVICES
 
Leavenworth Soccer Association
Youth soccer program. Office in the Youth Achievement Center.
 
Youth Leadership
YAC sponsored Youth leadership training for teens.
 
Connect Kansas
Quarterly meetings in the Youth Achievement Center. Concerned citizens and professionals working to coordinate and establish services needed in the community.
 
Cutting Edge
Youth newspaper. Journalism and layout educational program. The Cutting Edge newspaper is provided at no cost to all Junior & Senior High School Students in the Leavenworth County area. The newspaper may be picked up at no cost in several locations.
 
Youth TEACH
Youth drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention programs and information provided to the community through newspaper articles, program presentations in local schools and day cares and community events.
 
LEO's
Youth branch of the Leavenworth Lions Club. For information on the Leo's or the Leavenworth Lions Club call 682-8222.
 
TATU
Teens Against Tobacco Use. Youth led educational and prevention programs in conjunction with the American Cancer Society & American Lung Association.
 
Youth Support Programs, Inc.
(Formerly Big Brothers Sisters of Leavenworth County, Inc.)
After school and Summer Camp programs provided at no cost for at-risk families in the Leavenworth Community. Mentoring programs, matching adult mentors to work with one child.
 
Children's Garden
Youth gardening program under the direction of a Master Gardener volunteer. Garden location 314 Delaware.
 
Project PRIDE
Community youth working together in providing community service in the Leavenworth area.
 
Out of School Placement
Leavenworth School age youth receiving mentoring during regularly scheduled school hours or supervision during suspension from school.
 
Heart Land SHARE
Community food program. For more information call 682-8222.
 
BEST
Community volunteers meeting the 1st Monday of each month. 6:00 pm at the YAC.
