Description of Service:
Caritas Clinics, Inc., an affiliate of the Sisters of Charity of
Leavenworth Health Services Corporation, operates two not-for-profit
primary health care clinics for the uninsured poor. Saint Vincent
Clinic is located at 422 Walnut Street, Leavenworth, Kansas 66048.
Duchesne Clinic is located at 636 Tauromee Street, Kansas City,
Kansas 66101. Both clinics provide outpatient services to persons
who have no insurance and who live at or below 150% of the Federal
Poverty Level. Patients are seen by a volunteer Physician or by
a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner employed by the clinic.
Patients are also referred to specialists, dentists or eye care
professionals who have agreed to see our patients on a free or reduced
cost basis. A limited number of tests can be provided through cooperation
with radiologists, pathologists and these hospitals: Saint John
Hospital, Leavenworth; Cushing Memorial Hospital, Leavenworth ;
Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas; Bethany Medical
Center, Kansas City, Kansas. The clinics are also able to provide
some pharmaceuticals to our patients.
Public Appeal for Needs:
The clinics must raise approximately $170,000 each year in unrestricted
donations in order to provide services. Cash donations are welcomed.
The clinics also depends upon volunteer health care professionals
to assist in providing services to the uninsured poor. All health
care professionals are invited to become a volunteer at either clinic.
Secretarial volunteers and computer entry volunteers are needed
to assist with office work and data entry. Sample medications are
needed and will be picked up by clinic staff. |
