RIVER CITY CONNECTION TOUR - LEAVENWORTH

| The
first city of Kansas was founded in 1854 and became nationally known as
the "jumping off point" for the opening of the west. Many historic figures have passed through and touched this community, including Abraham Lincoln, George Armstrong Custer, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Douglas MacArthur, Wild Bill Hickok and Carrie Nation. Buffalo Bill Cody, famous scout, hunter and rider for the Pony Express, spent his formative years on the family farm just northwest of the city. Leavenworth's history is traced in the Leavenworth Room at the Leavenworoth's Victorian Carroll Mansion, 1128 Fifth Avenue. This beautiful 16-room Victorian mansion was built in 1867 and added to in 1882. The home is furnished in the style of the era. (Closed Mondays, holidays and from January 1 through mid-February.) Leavenworth's Community Center is housed in the renovated and expanded historic Union Pacific Train Depot overlooking the Missouri River.
